Cultural Hybridity Details - Essay Example The paper will examine whether cultural hybridity can be regarded as good. In addition, the paper seeks to explore whether cultural hybridity is disliked but believed to be inevitable. Moreover, the paper will focus on whether cultural purity should be somehow maintained. In the discussion, the paper will include references drawn from art. Is Cultural Hybridity Good? At a time when the world witnesses frequent migration of people, from one continent and country to another, there is, increasingly, interaction between people and a steady growth in cultural hybridity. In my opinion, cultural hybridity is good based on the impact it has on a culture. The process of cultural hybridization plays a crucial role in helping people to understand the process of cultural change. Cultural hybridity also stimulates scholars to have a close examination of the hybridization of the past. In this case, it has helped in the understanding of renaissance, a movement aimed at the revival of antiquity. Thr ough cultural hybridity, Japan borrowed some aspects of art and culture from Europe. For instance, during the 17th Century, most Japanese were converted to Christianity by protestant and Catholic missionaries (Dower 1-84). In addition, cultural hybridity saw the spread of Southern artwork, which had originated from parts of Europe. This included visual imagery such as large folding screens that depicted the harbor at Nagasaki having foreigners with their trade ships. Moreover, cultural hybridity can be regarded as good since it led to the spread of both secular and religious paintings that emanated from European sources. Cultural hybridity can be said to be good since it led to the spread such works of art as drawings. Such drawings included ââ¬Å"Portrait of Perry, A North American.â⬠Cultural hybridity can be regarded as good since it encompasses Transculturation, which is essential in understanding the specificity of a continent. Cultural hybridity leads to new cultural syn thesis, thus becoming a key element of Americanââ¬â¢s developing imaginary. The realization of cultural identity is also fueled to some extent by cultural hybridity, as it leads to the understanding that identity mostly encompasses the plurality in the cultural uniqueness of a culture. It is through cultural hybridity that people come to the realization of the distinctive features of a culture in terms of politics, ethnicity and social uniqueness (Dower 1-84). A form of artwork such as lithography also spread through cultural hybridity; it emanated from the works of a German by the name Aloys Senefelder, in 1798. People from various places have learnt that this work of art entails a process whereby the top of a surface is used in making a picture. The spread of various art forms can be attributed to cultural hybridity. Through the spread of artwork, cultural hybridity serves to create favourable relations between groups of people who interact while sharing artworks. Thus, the hyb ridization of cultural can be regarded as an essential phenomenon (Dower 1-84). Do you dislike it but believe it is inevitable? I do not dislike cultural hybridity, but it is my belief that it can be termed as inevitable owing to its remarkable impact. Once various cultures interact with one another, it becomes evident that they will exchange some traits between them. For instance, each culture comes to learn the way of doing things,
Public Health Preparedness Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Public Health Preparedness - Research Paper Example On the other hand, practical acts of violence like terror bombardments results in physical injuries and death. Health and security are related since employees within a healthcare institution cannot deliver their services with utter peace of mind when there is an impending threat of violence. On the other hand, anxiety in the society resulting from terror threats cannot enable individuals to hold their physical and mental components in good health. In this regard, healthcare institutions should ensure preparedness of their systems to handle emergency situations caused by insecurity incidences. Prior to examining the essential preparedness measures, it is worth acknowledging the actual effects of insecurity to healthcare delivery. Firstly, terrorists and any perpetrators of insecurity do not apply discrimination while selecting their battlegrounds. Suicide bombers can even walk into a hospitalââ¬â¢s sickbay full of patients and detonate an explosive device. This means that violence and terrorism renders a healthcare facility insecure. According to Gilliam and Yates (2012), fears prevailing within a healthcare environment with insecurity undermine the level of competence demonstrated by doctors and nurses while treating patients. Apart from insecure healthcare environment, violence and terrorism causes massive casualties, some of which may be in critical conditions. Normally, a healthcare facility with 600-bed capacity does not have an emergency department to host 300 patients in critical condition. This means that incidences of insecurity like terror bombardments may co mpromise on effectiveness of a healthcare facility in terms of capacity. Therefore, it is advisable for healthcare facility managers to make hay while the sun shines; by ensuring thorough preparedness for imminent emergency situations. In healthcare service delivery, emergency situations require employment of corresponding response procedures. During preparation for imminent emergency situations,

A level capacity strategy does not vary the amount of resources supplied. At Wheatley Park Hotel, the staffs are kept at a constant level regardless of the demand pattern. This strategy has created subsequent problems with the hotel such as staff wages, overtime pays, congestion and overall high operations costs. The of T.S. Eliot on Derek Walcott & Edward (Kamu) Brathwaite.Charles Essay
The of T.S. Eliot on Derek Walcott & Edward (Kamu) Brathwaite.Charles E - Essay Example To meet Pound and get introduced to Yeats Eliot emigrated to London. Here Bathwaite and Walcott overheard the conversation in which Eliot learnt about the relationship between poetry and speech, live by the technology called phonograph. Brathwaite came to hear "Eliot's actual voice - or rather his recorded voice property of the British Council (Barbados)", it gave a "poetic breakthrough" which he memorized where Eliot read "The Love song of the J.Alfred Prufrock", The Waste Land, and later the Four Quartets" (History of the Voice). Walcott lists that one of his most noteworthy memories of the adolescence (Leaving School) is "the Eliot's recording of the Four Quartets". For Brathwaite and Walcot listening to Eliot is equivalent to reading his texts by which their ability to understand the relationship of poetry to speech has developed. For Brathwaite and Walcott the question of language is as important as the tradition.

MGT ASSIGNMENT PART ONE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
MGT ASSIGNMENT PART ONE - Essay Example one example, there exists many such examples around the globe whereby strategic planning can seek to anticipate and ameliorate many of the challenges to profitability and change that exist within the current business environment. Furthermore, an evidence of tactical planning can be seen in the way in which BP has sought to further improve upon its safety performance in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon Oil spill within the Gulf of Mexico. Although BP was only partly responsible for the Macando Blow Out, the fact of the matter was that the incident was able to focus a high degree of oversight and introspection into the means whereby wells were drilled, caps were placed, and safety procedures were followed within the industry. More than being the greatest oil spill in history, the Macando Blow Out has provided BP with an exceptional opportunity to implement tactical planning on all of its oil drilling operations as a means of ensuring such an eventuality does not again occur. Finally, for the aspect of contingency planning that BP engages in, one can understand such a determinant also through the lens of the Macando Blow Out. What was evidenced at the time that the explosions and subsequent leak was first evidenced was the fact that BP was wholly and completely unprepared for dealing with a situation such as this; both on the tactical front as well as upon the contingency planning front. Rather than integrating a belief or understanding with the shareholders within the arena of public opinion that the firm was in control and was capable of dealing with the situation, what unfolded for the world to see was a firm that seemed to be muddling its way through the greatest oil spill in recorded human history. This destroyed consumer confidence and has left a very biased taste within the minds of shareholders that has yet to be erased. Although the majority of the damage from Deepwater horizon has since dissipated, the pervasive memory of how the firm dealt wit h

Music of world culture Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Music of world culture - Term Paper Example Moreover, they were sung by neighbors and the communities, when there were major events (Dzuris 331). In explaining folk music, I have not found an accepted definition, but this does not mean that it does not have a definition, but it ranges with the understanding of the subject. Folk music can be described as the music for and of the people, a nation, a community, or a subculture that carries messages with specific meaning regarding the peopleââ¬â¢s life and experiences (Dunaway and Beer 7-10). Music in the Western World In reference to the North America, folk music has been there before the arrival of the immigrant from Europe and later from Africa. The European immigrant brought with them ballads and other acoustic instruments. Folk music has been practiced for centuries, was, and is still referred to as the music of the masses. In the 17th century, most of the people in Europe were peasants, and folk songs transferred stories of event through oral narration. By this time, fo lk music was rarely performed musically. There composition was of simple form and represented the identity of the poorer in the communities (Dunaway and Beer 7- 17). In the period when Christianity movement started in Europe, folk music was at the centre stage of the expansion of the religion. It was highly associated with heathenism due its singing styles. Thereafter, folk music became more popular in society in sensitizing the masses in the start of the romantic period. People like Haydn, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky identified themselves with folk music. During this time, there were no cities and people lived in villages and urban communities. And with these settings, folk songs were recognized as a treasure and people identified themselves with the different styles of folk music. Each political beliefs, ethnicity, race, and religion had identified itself with specific style of folk song. Therefore, folk music played an important role in passing on the culture and the history of a particular community or country from one generation another. By the end of 19th century, folk songs had become unpopular in Western Europe and later in Eastern Europe and North America, during this time only the older individuals knew and sung folk songs. Still in the century, cities were established and people were moving from the rural areas to urban cities and this resulted to diminishing of the folk traditional music. Nevertheless, urban folklorists stimulated by a person known as Thomas Percy a British, Johann Gottfried, a German and an American by the name Francis James collected and later published volumes where they emphases on the different age of the folk songs and their meaning in the society. However, there work did not save the diminishing trend of folk songs and the music had little attention by this time. In 1899, Cecil Sharp an English scholar toured various communities in Britain collecting folk songs. He later established a society to preserve the songs, dances and other traditions of communities at that time (Dunaway and Beer 17-23). In the late 19th century, the documentation of folk songs started and more of the songs were recorded on a wax cylinder, and folk songs and other traditions were consolidated and shared far and wide as opposed to being confined within the borders of a community. Later in the same period, some new tradition begun to emerge in the urban districts where the

Arbitration on Buyer-Seller Disagreement Case Study
Arbitration on Buyer-Seller Disagreement - Case Study Example There are situations in the international market where the buyer and the seller disagree on their transactions. The basis of such dispute could range from the supply of inferior quality goods, failure of the goods delivered to meet standards and specifications or failure to deliver such goods or services in good time (Cornell, 2001). Under all these circumstances, the laws governing the international market provides an avenue through which such disputes can be resolved (Frank, 2009). In our case where the American businessperson ships livers to the German trader that do not meet all the specifications, then a need for dispute resolution arises. While the sex of the animal from which the livers are obtained is no cause for concern to Americans, the case is different in Germany. The livers obtained from different sexes of animals will fetch different prices in their markets. Since the attempt by the traders to resolve the dispute by them has failed completely, then a need for arbitrati on arises. The most important thing that the arbitrator should consider in this dispute resolution is the fact that a company is guided and under obligation to follow both the domestic laws regulating business transaction and the laws of the foreign country where the company is undertaking its business. In this case, owing to the fact that in Germany livers fetch different prices, based on which sex of the animal they come from, then the German importer has a reason to require the American supplier to pay a price allowance of $1000 (Cornell, 2001). Owing to the fact that the German importer issued instructions to the effect that the livers shipped should be of customary merchantable quality, it was the responsibility of the American trader to seek to understand the particular requirements of customary merchantable quality livers in the German market. Therefore, in this case, the arbitrator will rule in favour of the German importer, and establish an agreement with both of the traders, for the American exporter to reduce the price of the livers he shipped, so that the German importer does not run at a loss wholesomely.Ã Ã
